Springtime busy bees

Gosh can you believe spring is already here?
Spring crocus

I put up this picture of one of Mom's crocuses. It's funny how her daffodils and buttercups have yet to bloom, but they're fully involved everywhere else I've seen them.

Here's hoping I can get out and do some photography this weekend. Conway Media is doing a video on me (sorry I keep rescheduling!), and I'm looking forward to getting that done.

Hope y'all are well!

Sunday morning

Sorry for the gap in posts...I've been a bit sick lately. Norovirus is slowly touching everyone in South Carolina it seems. If you don't know about norovirus, you stomach ends up feeling a bit like this:

Sycamore seed pods

Anyway, I wanted to share something really cool I found poking around the interwebs. It's a 1903 homemade version of Alice in Wonderland.

You can read all about it on the youtube page. Really interesting history to it.

In other news, we're going out for a videoshoot and maybe a trip to the beach today. The videoshoot is the one of me that we keep having to put off, and the beach is just because I dreamt I was finding HUGE shark's teeth, and well, it's going to be 65 here today, so why not?

So safe travels to you if you're headed anywhere today.

One down, one to go

Male downy woodpecker

I knew going into this weekend that I'd get to have two totally new experiences. Mom & Dad got me a 70-300mm Nikkor telephoto lens for my D80, and I'd get to try out my large format film camera.

We got here in TN just after midnight, so when Dad pulled out the large format to explain everything, I was half asleep. The telephoto hadn't come in yet. I slept in until about 10 the next morning, and tried out the telephoto once it arrived in the mail. The picture above was taken with it. It's not super great because I was so eager to try it out I didn't use my tripod, but I think it's a really good start.

We were busy all day today so I didn't get to try the large format. We're heading back to SC late tomorrow, so I'll get to try it sometime tomorrow morning.

In the meantime, I'm setting up my account with RedBubble. I think I'm going to move from Imagekind to that, but it's going to take a while.

I'll keep you posted...

Here's hoping this year sees two more publications than last!

Night Photography

Night view of the farm

Since we've been snowed in here in Tennessee, I had a chance to work on my night time photography. Here's a picture I took that I really like, even though it is a little dark.

Americana

One of these days when I get a bit more time I hope to put together a book of Americana, specializing in the south.

Kennedy store

I feel like I've done a pretty good job covering South Carolina, but I have a lot of regret that I didn't explore more when I lived in Alabama. Although the one time I did go exploring to Smut Eye, Alabama (yes, that is a real place) I lost the developed pictures.

Maybe when I win the lottery I'll be able to take off work long enough to go back through Alabama for an entire summer. ;-)
